What's inside

Seven steps to a practice you love

  1. 1

    Start with one deck

Begin with a single deck: 78 cards if it's a tarot deck, or however many your oracle deck holds (many have around 33 to 50).

  2. 2

Make a practice deck your own

    Sometimes I modify my cards.

  3. 3

    Learn the creator's language

Many decks come with their own guidebook, and that's as good a place as any to start learning the meanings of the cards.

  4. 4

    Practice with a friend

Once you feel familiar with your deck, whether that takes a couple of hours or a few weeks, ask a friend if they'd like to practice with you.

  5. 5

    Set safety containers

I've learned that, much like dreaming, this kind of work engages the unconscious mind.

  6. 6

    Set the table

I like to prepare my space the way I prepare for a meal.

  7. 7

    Build a routine

Because this is practice and learning, like school, it helps to set yourself a routine.

  8. +

    My reading list

The books that helped me learn, plus where to keep exploring.

We like deep conversations

Everyone drawn to the cards has a unique story, but we share something: we aren't afraid to look into the unknown and make sense of its mysteries. This guide gathers what has stood out to me after years of books, readings and practice.

It comes from my life experience, so I encourage you to seek out at least two other opinions and keep what feels right to you.

Readers are creators

Storytellers, coaches and performers

An intuitive card reader is part life coach and part storyteller, and there's a performative element to every reading. If you're a creator too, the guide ends with ways to keep growing: my creative video series and one-on-one creative life coaching.
